In centuries past, these men would travel on foot for months across Europe and even overseas to sell the handcrafted timepieces from their homeland. In this fabulous reinterpretation, this story is brought to life in a modern way. The cuckoo, the quintessential symbol of the Black Forest, takes on the role of the visionary master clockmaker – the creative mastermind behind the craft. He is supported by his faithful companion, a proud billy goat, who, as a tireless clock-bearer, has shouldered the heavy, magnificently decorated cuckoo clock. The deliberate placement of the characters against a neutral, white background brings the fine details, the textures of the clothing and the expressive gaze of the figures into focus. The result is a symbiosis of traditional Black Forest folk art and modern, digital character design.
