The island of Madeira in Portugal is a regular stop on the tourist trail including the arrival of large cruise liners. They bring people to the harbor at Porto Funchal, International Maritime Passenger Terminal from where they can walk into town in about 15 minutes though taxis and buses are available.
Funchal is the capital of Madeira and located on the south coast of the island. It is the biggest city on Madeira and is one of the main stops for passenger cruise ships throughout the year. The arrival into Funchal is said to be picturesque and passengers are encouraged to be on deck to enjoy the view.
This image shows one of the large cruise ships docked at harbor, surrounded by smaller boats enjoying the sunshine. The Pontinha pier you can see sits in a large, natural bay sheltered by lush mountains and surrounded by what seem to be endless blue waters.
