The Arch of Titus is a Roman arch of honour at the Roman Forum in Rome.
It was built at the highest point of the Via Sacra, on Velia hill, near the Colosseum.
Carl Christian Constantin Hansen (Rome, 3 November 1804 - Frederiksberg, Denmark, 29 March 1880) was a Danish painter and considered an important exponent of the Danish Golden Age.
The colour scheme also marks a break with the norms of the day. The artist shows a remarkable sense of the delicate, changing hues of the sunlight and in the shadows. With this picture, Hansen points towards the treatment of colour employed by the Impressionists 30 years later.
