Chevrolet Corvette, the longest built sports car in the world from 1953 to today!
But at the beginning of the production the Corvette was almost at the end. The fibreglass plastic bodywork that is still used today was initially extremely problematic to manufacture. This and although the production started already half a year after the presentation in the Hotel Waldorf Astoria in January 1953. Such difficult shapes firstly allowed the designers much more freedom of design and secondly, also eliminated the need to design and manufacture the large forming tools for the sheet metal coils in series production.
But in 1955 only 700 units were sold and the main problem was the weak engine with only 110 kW (150 hp) and the Corvette was even more expensive than models from Jaguar and Cadillac which already had a very good image with the buyers.
