About "Caspar David Friedrich View"

About the artwork

Many people know the artwork "The Wanderer over the Sea of Fog" by Caspar David Friedrich. The painter, graphic artist and draughtsman, who was born in 1774 in Greifswald in Swedish Pomerania, created this work of art around 1818 at the age of 44. Today he is considered one of the most important artists of the German early Romantic period.

The wanderer is the central figure in the composition of the painting. He looks down on a seemingly impenetrable sea of fog in the midst of a rocky landscape.

It is precisely this rocky landscape that one discovers in my photograph. My photograph was chosen by Carola Aussicht, located in the Hintere Sächsische Schweiz. This is where it is said to have stood. Since Caspar David Friedrich's painting is a composition of various views of Saxon Switzerland, there are several spots that he is said to have captured artistically.

Among others, for the back figure he needed a prominent rock on which to position the hiker. He used a boulder on the ascent to the table mountain "Kaiserkrone" for his picture composition.

My photograph was taken in October this year. I stood as if captivated at the spot where the famous artist had already let his eyes glide over this fascinating landscape. A picture for my eternity.

Caspar David Friedrich died in 1774 in Dresden, in what was then the Kingdom of Saxony.
