The buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium- to large-sized bird of prey in the hawk family (Accipitridae). The buzzard is found throughout most of Europe and parts of Asia. It is a resident bird that winters in the same area where it breeds, except for the coldest areas and some subspecies. The bird usually hunts in open country, but nests in forest edges. Normally, a buzzard's prey consists mainly of small mammals, reptiles and birds, but it also serves as a scavenger.
