The buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a medium to large bird of prey in the hawk family. The scientific name of the species was published as Falco buteo in 1758 by Carl Linnaeus.[2] The buzzard is found throughout most of Europe and parts of Asia. It is predominantly a resident bird that winters in the same area where it breeds, except in the coldest areas and except for a few subspecies. The bird usually hunts in open country, but nests in forest edges. Normally, a buzzard's prey consists mainly of small mammals, amphibians (such as frogs) and small birds, but it is also a scavenger on occasion.
