Brown Bear, photographed in Wildpark Gangelt, Germany. These animals are large and solidly built. The sexes don't give in much to each other in physique, the males are twice as heavy as the more skinny females. The thick coat is usually dark brown, but the color can vary from blond to black. On the strong front legs there are long, non-retractable claws. Furthermore, they have a striking shoulder hump. The body length is 1.7 to 2.8 m, the tail length is 5 to 20 cm and the weight is 80 to over 600 kg.
