About ‘Bospad bij de koepel in Lunteren ’ by Veluws

De Koepel is de naam voor de uitzichttoren die staat in het Lunterse Buurtbos op ongeveer 25 minuten lopen vanaf het NS station van Lunteren (volg eerst de bordjes naar de Werelt tot aan het bos en daarna de paaltjes met donker-groene markering vanaf hoek Boslaan/van den Hamlaan). Er is ook een fietspad naar de Koepel. Automobilisten kunnen hun auto parkeren op de Boslaan, ter hoogte van HCR De Lunterse Boer. Van daar af is het ongeveer 15 minuten lopen (volg de donkergroene paaltjes).

In de Koepel is in het seizoen altijd een expositie te zien en worden op enkele zondagmiddagen inloopconcerten georganiseerd. Voor het programma zie de regionale kranten of deze site onder Lunters Nieuws.

De Koepel is een dichte gemetselde toren met vijf bouwlagen. De toren is zelf 22 meter hoog en staat op de Galgenberg die 34 meter boven N.A.P. staat. Met goed zicht is met een kijker zelfs de Dom van Utrecht te zien. De Koepel is in 1913, ter nagedachtenis aan notaris J.W.Th.W. van den Ham, gebouwd in opdracht van zijn familie en zijn opvolger notaris G. Wilbrink. Diens neef en schoonzoon W.O.J. Nieuwenkamp kreeg de opdracht voor het ontwerp met twee verdiepingen en een omloop. Nieuwenkamp voerde de toren uit in natuursteen en metselwerk en maakte het zo, dat de toren gemakkelijk zou kunnen worden verhoogd als de omringende bomen het uitzicht zouden gaan belemmeren. De naam de Koepel is te danken aan de typische ronde vorm van het koperen dak dat de omloop overdekt. In 1962 kreeg de
