About ‘Birch trees in spring’ by Alie ten Hove
A painting in mixed media. The background is gesso with some sand through it. The act background is painted with brush and acrylic, while the birches are painted with palette knife and acrylic with sand. By mixing the sand into the paint, I tried to express the beautiful, rough birch bark.

In my paintings, I use acrylic, watercolour, sometimes ink and often means of applying a lot of texture. I create mostly abstract work, interspersed with more realistic landscapes. Most works are inspired by impressions gained during my travels. Nature is a great source of inspiration for me. By playing with colours, I try to give my work a certain atmosphere and recognisability.
