Biertan, in the middle of Romania, is a picturesque village surrounded by vineyards. The 19th century farmhouses and its rural location make this village special. Biertan has 4.000 inhabitants, mainly farmers, belonging to different ethnic groups (Romanians, Hungarians, Saxon-Germans and Gypsies). They do agriculture and cattle breeding or worked in the wine cooperative.
