Berlin – Tango of the Golden Night

by Max Steinwald

A visual ode to Berlin’s glamour.

The city never sleeps; it merely changes its guise. Beneath the midnight-blue sky, pierced by shifting beams of light, an era long thought to be gone is brought back to life. On the cool marble of a high balcony, two bodies merge in a fluid movement. The rhythm of the metropolis pulses deep below in the illuminated streets of Berlin, yet up here, only the beat of a silent tango exists. Every step is a tribute to the golden age, carried by the quiet grandeur of the urban skyline. In this moment of absolute devotion, the vastness of the metropolis becomes the intimate backdrop to a single, seemingly endless night.

In the mural ‘Berlin – Tango of the Golden Night’, the artist Max Steinwald creates a cinematic scene brimming with urban elegance. The nocturnal metropolis of Berlin, characterised by the iconic silhouettes of the TV Tower, the Red Town Hall and Berlin Cathedral, forms the radiant backdrop for an intimate moment. On an ornate Art Deco balcony, two dancers merge in the fluid movements of a tango. Steinwald employs a compelling visual composition here: the architectural rigour of the illuminated skyline and the diagonal beams of light in the sky contrast with the organic dynamism of the couple. The deep, shimmering red of the vintage dress stands out strikingly against the midnight blue and golden tones of the urban surroundings. Through this striking colour scheme and sophisticated lighting, which vividly highlights the fine textures of the marble and the golden balustrades, the work achieves a tangible sense of spatial depth. It is a visual ode to the glamour of bygone eras, set against the vibrant present of a cosmopolitan city. A work of art that engages the viewer emotionally and fills any space with an aura of timeless sensuality and cosmopolitan luxury.
