Sandy beaches have to be the driest almost totally non-fertilising surface you can reside on, in my opinion, and yet - with the help of low crops - these trees manage to continue their somewhat shrill and barren existence in the heat and unsheltered. Behind them, the horizon line of the Atlantic Ocean can just be seen as seen from the Leblon beach district in Rio de Janeiro.
By showing the image in black and white, it simultaneously shows the graphic side of the scene in which a younger tree is framed by taller neighbours but also shows the unyielding strength of this small group of trees contrasting against the even sky in the background....
