About "Beach pavilion on Texel"

About the artwork

A beach pavilion is a building on or near the beach. Beach tents are used for catering or as a shop where beach supplies are sold or rented, such as beach chairs.

In the Netherlands and Belgium, beach tents are usually only erected on the beach during the holiday season. In the autumn, they are usually dismantled and stored for the winter to prevent storm and frost damage, and rebuilt in the spring. However, there are also locations where beach tents are open all year round.

A permit is required to erect and operate a beach pavilion. It also specifies the period during which a beach tent may be present on the beach.[1]

In almost all cases there is a connection for mains water and electricity. This water supply is often used for public showers on the beach. Waste water from the beach pavilion is often discharged via a pressure pipe,[2] and if there is no such pipe, it is stored in a tank and regularly discharged by sewage truck. In the old days, a cesspool was dug in the sand, which also served as a death trap. The stricter environmental standards do not allow this anymore. source wikipedia
