The Atalanta butterfly, also known as the admiral butterfly, is a striking sight in the Netherlands. With its intensely black wings decorated with bright orange stripes and white dots, it attracts attention in any garden or park. This butterfly is a true world traveller; it migrates annually between southern Europe and north-western Europe, covering thousands of kilometres. The Atalanta feels at home in both urban and rural environments and is often seen on flowers such as buddleja and thistles. This elegant insect symbolises not only beauty, but also perseverance and the magic of nature.
