A drought occurs when there is less rain than normal for an extended period of time combined with high evaporation. So when more water evaporates than is added, drought occurs. Drought is calculated from the amount of rainfall minus evaporation. Every day, about 5 millimeters of water evaporates. The effects of drought can vary greatly from place to place, depending on the type of landscape and management measures taken.
