About ‘Aphrodite (Venus)’ by Stephan Post

A modern reinterpretation of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. This artwork depicts Aphrodite (Venus) in almost her entirety, with radiant golden hair, alongside her son Eros (Cupid). Set against a deep, vibrant blue background. A fusion of classical mythology, 400-year-old etching art and modern digital graphic design.

Originally etched in black and white as a small 26x18cm print by the famous Dutch artist Hendrick Goltzius in 1611, this work has been digitally restored, enlarged and carefully coloured. Extensive historical research was carried out during the colourisation process to bring the look and feel of the original mythological depiction back to life. For instance, the skin tone was created by literally using photographs of the planet Venus to digitally etch the colour into the image. Meanwhile, the golden locks with warm red accents of strawberries emphasise her divine beauty. The high-contrast blue background is intended to reflect both earthly and cosmic depth. This is the first work in the “Olympians Series”, in which all 12 classical Greek gods have been or are being digitally restored and coloured.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
