In this view of the entrance hall with the imposing staircase, you first realise how large and spacious Antwerp station really is. You can see the different levels, as well as the passages under and above the stairs. The Antwerp railway station is one of the most beautiful stations in the world. Built in 1895 and later restored and extended, it is now a mixture of old and new and has 14 platforms on three levels. The huge entrance hall was lined with different types of stone and marble. When you stand inside, you feel transported directly to another time and you could almost think you are standing in a castle or a palace - that's how beautiful this station is! It is precisely the composition of the various elements such as arches, pillars, balustrades and different building materials and decorations that make this station so special and one of the most important sights of the city! It is not for nothing that it is popularly called the "railway cathedral". The picture is also available in black and white.
