Inspired by Vincent van Gogh's painting, Flowering almond branch in a vase. I painted part of this with oil pastel chalk. With oil pastel you can put layers on top of each other, giving you depth. It is oh so difficult to approach van Gogh in any way, his painting is unparalleled, as are the colours he used. I painted the background with watercolour paint to keep it light and transparent. The light falls on the blossom buds making them stand out against the background. The almond trees blossom in the spring of southern Europe and give a sort of snow-white dress .
