This photo was taken on the beautiful Sallandse Heuvelrug. After several hours of waiting for nice birds to photograph, this crested tit came to sit a few metres away from me. I am an avid birder and love to go out with binoculars and camera to admire and capture birds. Although I have admired the crested tit many times before through my binoculars (and heard its recognisable song), this is my first crested tit that I have been able to capture on film. The crest straightens as the crested tit becomes more alert, which can be a signal to other crested tits or possible enemies such as the various woodpecker species. The green background makes it a calm image and this makes the crested tit the shining centrepiece with its typical crest.
The Latin name, or scientific name of the Crested Tit is Lophophanes cristatus. The Crested Tit is a songbird in the Tits family.
