Coral Bay is a town on the Ningaloo Coast in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia. It is located 1,132 kilometres north of Perth and 138 kilometres south of Exmouth. In 2021, Coral Bay had a population of 245 compared to 190 in 2006. Coral Bay lives off tourism and is especially known as a convenient location for snorkelling over the Ningaloo reef.
Coral Bay is adjacent to the Ningaloo Marine Park. The park serves to protect the 300-kilometre-long World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef. It is home to some 500 tropical fish and more than 200 coral species. In March and April, the corals can be observed spawning for three days one week after the full moon. From April to July, migrating whale sharks swim through the park. From June, northward migrating humpback whales can be observed. Until November, they can be seen returning with their calves.
