The Oosterdok is a water in Amsterdam. It came into existence in 1832 when, by construction of the Oosterdok-dam, this part of the IJ was separated and therefore no longer had ebb and flow in the then still open connection with the Zuiderzee.
On the east side this created the enclosed water surface that is now called Oosterdok. On the west side the Westerdok arose in a similar way.
