by Silva Wischeropp

About the artwork

This overgrown, mysterious facade of an old country house was taken in the late afternoon hours of 19 April 2012 in Savoca on the island of Sicily with the NIKON D90.

Savoca is an Italian municipality in the metropolitan city of Messina in the autonomous region of Sicily with 1697 inhabitants. It is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The most beautiful places in Italy).
Savoca is located 39 kilometres southwest of Messina. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and grow citrus fruits, olives and fruit. The neighbouring municipalities are Casalvecchio Siculo, Forza d'Agrò, Furci Siculo, Sant'Alessio Siculo and Santa Teresa di Riva.
Roger II founded a Norman settlement here in 1132. The village of Savoca has been known since 1415. The name of the village comes from Sambucus, the elder tree.
Savoca was the location for several scenes in the film trilogy The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola.
