Jules Schmalzigaug (1882-1917) was a Belgian artist who was close to Futurism and Cubism. As a painter and writer, he characterised the avant-garde scene in Belgium. Schmalzigaug experimented with abstract forms and vibrant colours, drawing inspiration from developments in early 20th century European art. Despite his short life, he contributed to the modernisation of Belgian art.
