I visited Bali about 30 years ago and spent a month there, totally captivated by the land, the people and the culture. Every day was a new experience and we took forays into all parts of the country, away from the crowds of tourists in the main areas.
Everywhere we went we saw statues and depictions of the Garuda bird. As the mount of the Hindu God Vishnu, the Garuda plays an important part in Balinese life. The Garuda is depicted in shadow puppet shows, traditional dances and more. This sculpture is a wood carving high up on a beam in a temple within an ornate ceiling and highly decorated in bright colors.
Born in the South of England I now live half way up a mountain in Umbria, Italy. I work from my art studio looking out over fabulous views of the Italian countryside. I am so happy to share my artwork with you.
