The firecracker shooting takes place on special holidays, for example, weddings, church consecrations, in the Rauhnächten, especially on Christmas Eve or on New Year's Day, at Solstice. This is done to drive away evil spirits and to start the upcoming time with good omens (see also Easter shooting).
On the other hand, shooting also takes place at shooting festivals and at funerals of war veterans and long-time members of shooting and veterans' clubs, as well as honorary salutes for distinguished guests at events. On the German Volkstrauertag, the custom of firecracker shooting is mostly cultivated in southern German villages, thus honoring the victims and fallen soldiers of the two world wars.
Also for the sacramental blessing at the outer altars during processions to Corpus Christi or a hail procession, the firecracker is common in some areas.
In many regions, annual meetings of firecrackers are held (Wikipedia).
