The blueberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) belongs to the heather family (Ericaceae). It is also known regionally as Besinge or Besing, other dialectal and regional names are Blaubeere, Schwarzbeere, Mollbeere, Wildbeere, Waldbeere, Bickbeere, Staulbeere (Palatinate and Saarland), Zeckbeere, Moosbeere or (especially also Swiss and southern German) Heubeere.
