The ferries of the GVB (municipal transport company) sail every day over the IJ back and forth between Amsterdam Central on De Ruijterkade and Amsterdam Noord. This is a crossing of less than five minutes; the IJ is not that wide. At De Ruijterkade and Amsterdam Noord there are four small docks (2 and 2) and four ferries, so the crossings always have to be planned tightly. When a ferry crosses, the dock across the water must be free. On the picture two of the ferries that pass each other. Across the street is the Eye Film Museum and the Adam Tower for events.
