A cormorant stands drying its wings after underwater hunting. This is because their wings have no layer of fat. This is because they need to be able to dive deep and with a layer of fat, they don't succeed very well. Their wings are then soaked from the water and have to dry on the wind. They do this by spreading their wings. If you see a cormorant like this, it is not because they are hot, but because of their wet wings.
The photo shows an island in the Gorssloot in Purmerend. This is a bigger water than its name suggests. It is a wide water that flows into a pond, with some islands and lots of animals, birds especially. This is a cormorant that you often see there too.
