Achille Zo (born Jean-Baptiste Achille Zo 30 July 1826, Bayonne -2 March 1901, Bordeaux) was a French painter of Basque origin. He painted in an academic style with many historical works and genre scenes. Zo painted, among other things, scenes of Orientalism.
Zo was a methodical painter and worked meticulously from his first sketch to his final signature. His rigorous approach ensured balance in composition. He paid great attention to the accurate rendering of objects, played with light and shadow, and added strong color strokes to a darkly tinted base.
