About ‘Zeeland folklore’ by anne droogsma

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the horse—preferably a Belgian pair—pulls the carriage. Their hooves clatter through the narrow streets of the old villages of Walcheren, pulling the carriage along with, in this case, two people dressed in Zeeland traditional costume—a must.
A course has been marked out with rings at various points, and if you aim well, you can thread the ring onto the shaft. Driving a sjeesje, ring riding – no, not just in Zeeland, but in this traditional costume it’s an absolute must. A wonderful tradition that winds its way through the villages of Walcheren in summer and makes many a tourist’s heart beat faster.
