Mythical figures bathed in the temple’s radiance

Amidst the golden glow and mosaic colours, they stand like ancient guardians of the threshold: the Yaksha, sentinel figures at the golden chedi of Wat Phra Kaew. Their bodies are covered in sparkling glass stones; their faces are stern yet imbued with a mythical dignity. Blue, green and red, they glow in the sunlight as if they themselves were formed from the very essence of heaven and earth. With arms raised, they bear the weight of the sanctuary, yet their posture conveys more than mere strength – it is a symbol of protection, of the balance between the earthly and the divine.
The golden chedi rises like a flame, a symbol of enlightenment, whilst the guardians at the base secure the connection to the world. They are not merely demons or spirits, but embodiments of the cosmic order, guardians of the Dharma. Anyone standing before them feels the tension between fear and comfort: their fierce features are frightening, yet their service is pure, their mission sacred.
Thus, this photograph speaks of the beauty of Thai art, of the fusion of myth and architecture. A silent promise lies within it: that the sacred will be preserved as long as the guardians maintain their eternal stance.
