About ‘Chilling bearded seal on an ice floe’ by Martijn Smeets
This bearded seal is resting on one of the ice floes in the Forlandsundet strait.
Bearded seals grow to be 220 to 250 centimeters long and weigh 200 to 360 kilograms. Females usually grow slightly larger than males. As shown in the photo, they have a rather long body with a comparatively small head.
