A view from the summit across the vast Iller Valley

From the Großer Daumen at 2,280 m, a panorama unfolds that seems like a quiet breath taken by the Allgäu Alps. The summit cross stands bathed in warm light, a simple metal sentinel that has weathered wind and weather yet remains steadfast. At its feet, the view stretches far down into the Iller Valley, where meadows, paths and villages wind their way through the greenery like delicate lines. There rises the Grünten (1,738 m), the guardian of the Allgäu, a familiar mountain that, from a distance, seems like a tranquil thought.
The surrounding peaks are bathed in clear light, their contours both rugged and softly defined against the vastness of the sky. Rock, grass and sky merge into a landscape that is not merely seen, but felt. A quiet moment in which the mountains tell their stories – of wind, of time, of people who, up here, leave the world behind for a moment. In this panorama of the Allgäu, Bavaria, Germany and Europe, the distance becomes an inner space, and the view extends further than words can reach.
