A summer in the mountains on the Laufbacher Eckweg

Above the Laufbacher-Eckweg, a panorama unfolds that feels like a quiet breath of the Allgäu Alps. The Höfats rise up with their sharply defined ridges, bold and almost defiant, as if to show every hiker just how wild and untamed mountains can be. Among the rocks in the foreground, small yellow and white flowers bloom – delicate harbingers of a summer that lasts only a few short weeks up here. Their quiet radiance forms a gentle contrast to the rugged might of the rock faces, which still bear patches of snow in the distance, a reminder of the cold that never quite recedes.
The sky stretches clear and wide across the landscape, a deep blue that makes the heights appear even more majestic. In this stillness, pierced by a gentle breeze, one senses the special magic of the Allgäu: the closeness between delicate transience and age-old permanence. Every step along this path leads deeper into a landscape that demands not just to be seen, but to be felt. Here, at 2,259 metres, Europe seems, for a moment, to be quite simple – a place of light, stone and sky that broadens one’s horizons and brings peace to the heart.
