A panorama in the still of the night

Night still lies like a gentle veil over Playa María Jiménez, yet on the horizon a barely perceptible glow is already beginning to appear, a first whisper of the coming day. The waves roll onto the dark beach in long, patient swathes, as if they were gently carrying the night’s last dreams ashore. Their white foam glows in the diffuse blue, as though the moon itself had dipped its fingers into it.
Above the bay, the colourful houses of Puerto de la Cruz huddle close together, like a community warming one another as the wind sweeps in from the Atlantic. Their façades – yellow, blue, ochre, white – appear in the early twilight like faded memories, waiting to be reawakened by the first ray of sunshine. A faint glow in individual windows reveals that the day has already begun for some.
The rocks at the edge of the coast stand like silent sentinels, watching over the interplay of sea and man for centuries. And as the darkness slowly recedes, a moment arises in which everything seems possible: a transition, delicate and powerful at the same time, in which the island holds its breath before opening itself to the light.
