About ‘When prayers touch the mountains’ by Walter G. Allgöwer

Above Tsenmo Hill, the sky stretches out like an open promise. The prayer flags, ruffled by the wind and bleached by countless suns, whisper their mantras into the distance. Every colour carries a breath of hope, every stitch a silent prayer, which is released and drifts over Leh, down into the Indus Valley, where life pulsates green and persistent.
The city lies down there like a mosaic of time: old monasteries, new roofs, narrow paths between poplars and dust. The Indus draws a calm line through the valley, as if aware of its millennia-old task of being a memory for travellers, traders and dreamers. The mountains rise above it, barren and majestic, their flanks modelled by light and shadow.
Stok Kangri towers on the horizon, snow-capped, unapproachable and yet present. Its white colour shines like a thought of eternity, a silent antithesis to the fleeting movement of the flags. Up here, time seems to breathe more slowly. The wind carries stories from Ladakh, from Jammu and Kashmir, from Asia itself - stories of transitions, of silence and of the deep connection between man, landscape and sky.
