The quiet majesty of the Allgäu Alps

Above the Älpelesattel, the landscape opens up like a deep breath of the Allgäu Alps. The ridges and peaks – the Schneck, the Himmelhorn, the Großer and Kleiner Wilder, and the sharply jagged Höllhörner – stand bathed in light like ancient guardians of a quiet, high-altitude world. The panorama looks as though the wind itself had drawn it: rugged cliffs jutting up against the sky, and in between them soft, green hollows where the summer grass sways gently.
From 1,780 metres, the view rises to the higher elevations, where the rock becomes lighter in colour, the light cooler, and the last patches of snow lie like memories of winter. Each peak has its own character – the Schneck with its gentle curves, the Wilde with its rugged, jagged form, the Himmelhorn like a silent, dark sentinel.
In this vast expanse, one loses all sense of time. The sky shifts slowly, clouds drift like thoughts across the ridges, and one feels small, yet not insignificant. Up here, in the Allgäu, in Bavaria, in Europe, the world seems, for a moment, to be in balance – rugged and delicate at the same time, a silent conversation between stone, light and wind.
