Gold of the mountain meadows

In the golden light of a clear early summer’s day, the arnica rises like a little sun from the mountain meadow at Gerstruben. Its vibrant petals seem to capture the light of the Allgäu Alps, whilst behind it the rugged slopes of the Dietersbach Valley rise silently towards the sky. Amidst dandelions, daisies and the gentle green of the meadows, this medicinal plant exudes a quiet dignity – fragile yet full of strength.
Gerstruben, the former mountain farming village above Oberstdorf, tells of a simple life in tune with the rhythm of the mountains. Here, where the wind smells of herbs and damp earth, nature still retains its original language. Arnica, prized for centuries as a medicinal plant for body and soul, appears here as a symbol of the Alpine landscape itself: resilient, bathed in light and of quiet beauty.
The blurring of the mountains in the background draws the eye to what matters most – to that single moment when nature and light merge. Thus, the photograph becomes more than a botanical portrait: it speaks of stillness, summer and the quiet magic of a place where time stands still for a moment.
