Evening light over Funchal

At dusk, a soft blue settles over the Atlantic, as if the day were slowly holding its breath. The sea lies calm before Funchal, wide and open, a shimmering mirror for the last light of the sky. Clouds drift across it like thoughts, still touched by the gold of the day, while the city begins to glow.
The lights of Funchal climb the slopes, following the lines of the mountains, as if they have learned to adapt to the relief of the island. Streets become glowing veins, houses warm dots in the gathering evening. Cruise ships rest in the harbour, mighty and silent, like travellers between two worlds – the open ocean and the solid land. Their lights are reflected in the water, telling of departures, arrivals and the promise of distant horizons. A gentle breeze carries the scent of the sea through the city, mingling with voices, music and the incessant pulse of life. At this moment, Madeira appears both vast and sheltered: an island embraced by the sea and protected by the sky. Night does not come suddenly, it glides in – and with it the certainty that every evening here is a little journey, between light and dark, between distance and home.
