About ‘Between shadow and enlightenment’ by Walter G. Allgöwer

In the warm partial shade of Wat Pho, the gilded Buddha figures sit like silent guardians of a time that never passes. Their light is not an outward splendour, but an inner radiance reflected in the polished surfaces like a distant echo of enlightenment. The Bhumispara Mudra, the gesture of touching the earth, seems here like a silent vow: a moment in which the world holds its breath and awakening itself takes shape.
Between the rows of statues, the air seems denser, filled with a subtle, barely audible vibration. It is as if the temple itself were listening. The golden figure in the foreground radiates a tranquillity that both focuses and opens the gaze. Behind it stand darker Buddha figures, like shadows of the infinite, bringing depth and mystery into the space.
Bangkok remains outside, with its noise, its colours, its restless pulse. Here, however, time flows differently. Every step, every breath becomes a quiet bow to the moment when Gautama touched the earth and the world was transformed. In this golden light, it seems possible that one’s own mind, too, might fall silent for a moment – and that something within it might awaken.
