About ‘Early morning bonfire’ by Walter G. Allgöwer

At Playa María Jiménez, the morning dawns like a quiet promise, yet the sea knows no gentleness. The waves tower up, dark blue and heavy, as if to challenge the sky, which is only just beginning to open up in delicate shades of pink. Each breaking wave rolls in with an ancient power, rises in the golden light of the sunrise, and then crashes thunderously into a chaos of foam and spray.
The wind carries salty droplets across the beach, mingling them with the scent of rocks and seaweed, and somewhere amidst the sounds of the surf, one can sense the island’s breath. Puerto de la Cruz is still half-asleep, but here, on the edge of La Ranilla, the day is already awake. The stormy waves seem like wandering mountains, rising and receding to the rhythm of the tides – an endless dialogue between water and light.
At this moment, the world seems to consist solely of movement: the surging of the sea, the shimmer of the first rays of sunlight, the pulse of the Atlantic as it crashes against the coast. And as the spray dances in the air, it becomes clear that this place is not merely a beach, but a transition – between night and day, between tranquillity and power, between that which remains and that which rises anew time and again.
