About "Zabriskie Point (Death Valley National Park)"

About the artwork

On the CA-190 road in the Death Valley National Park you will find one of the more beautiful viewpoints of the park; Zabriskie Point. This place is named after the American businessman and vice president of Pacific Coast Borax Company, Christiaan Brevoort Zabriskie. From the car park it is a small 200 meter walk to reach the viewpoint. From here you can see the undulating dune landscape, which is almost alien. The area is also called badlands. The landscape is formed by water. Although it hardly ever rains in Death Valley, the showers that fall are immediately very heavy. Because the water cannot sink into the dry soil, a lot of water has to be drained in a short period of time. This causes the water to wear deep gullies in the soft rock. This water erosion has created the landscape of Zabriskie Point.
