It is still early on a spring morning in a Dutch polder. The grass is a little frosted from the night frost and the morning mist hangs over the fields. The sun is just rising and in the distance a woman is running alone on a country road.
The photo was taken in the Terheijdense Binnenpolder near the village of Terheijden, municipality of Drimmelen, province of North Brabant. The nature reserve of 120 ha is managed by Staatsbosbeheer. At about 1.30 meters below sea level, the Binnenpolder is the lowest point in the province of Noord-Brabant. Centuries ago, peat was cut here for fuel.
