About the artwork

The legendary Boeing B-29 Superfortress!
On the photo you can see "Fifi", for a long time the only flying B-29, but since a number of years "Doc" has joined. There is also work of "Doc" to be found in my shop.

The Boeing B-29 Superfortress is an American bomber that was used in the Second World War in the fight against Japan, from bases in China and on the Mariana Islands (Guam and two islands of the Northern Mariana Islands, Saipan and Tinian). Among other things, this type of bomber was used to drop the first atomic bomb over Hiroshima on August 6, 1945; this bomber was called the "Enola Gay". Three days later this type of bomber dropped the second atomic bomb, this time over Nagasaki by the bomber "Bockscar". Both aircraft departed from Tinian.

The B-29 was designed (as the Boeing Model 345) to the requirements of the U.S. Air Force, which needed a long-range bomber that could fly at high altitudes. The first flight took place on 21 September 1942 (XB-29).

The turrets of the B-29 were all remotely controlled, this in contrast to the B-17.

I took this photo on August 30, 2015 during the Thunder over Michigan Airshow.
