The big sight crosses the Atmeydanı (hippodrome), Jean Baptiste Vanmour, 1720 - 1737.
The At Meydanı was the large central square of Istanbul. Two obelisks reminded us that the plain had been a horse racecourse in ancient times. The big sight, to the right of the middle on horseback, is accompanied by soldiers and preceded by two servants. They wear a prayer cloth and a pillow in case he is surprised by the time of the prayer on the way.
