This photo shows the Sulawesi annual bird.
The sulawesi annual bird (Rhyticeros cassidix synonym: Aceros cassidix) is a bird belonging to the family of hornbills (Bucerotidae). It is an endemic bird species on Sulawesi. The sulawesi annual bird is the emblem for the fauna of southern Celebes.
The size of the population has not been quantified. Locally the bird is still common. However, the habitat of the sulawesi annual bird is being deforested at a rapid rate, for example, 36% of the rainforest was lost between 1997 and 2001. For this reason it is listed as "vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List.
The photo was taken in Ouwehands Dierenpark, Rhenen.
