The Niederwalddenkmal stands on a hill near Rüdesheim on the Rhine in Germany. The monument was erected after the Franco-German War (1870-1871) as a national monument to honour German unity and the new empire under Wilhelm I. Together, statue and pedestal are 38 metres high.
