The northern approach road from Eindhoven to Veldhoven consists of Noord-Brabantlaan in Eindhoven and Heerbaan in Veldhoven. For many years a large roundabout was located on this road just northeast of the municipal boundary with Veldhoven, of which the carriageway was wide enough for three lanes. There were deliberately no white lines on the road surface, the intention being to stimulate road users to drive more calmly. This construction was experienced as unpleasant by many road users.

Partly in connection with the development of the nearby neighbourhood of Meerhoven expansion of the intersection's capacity was necessary. The choice fell on a somewhat futuristic construction designed by ipv Delft. Car traffic has an intersection with traffic lights, for cyclists a raised roundabout was built that is suspended with cable cords from a 70 m high pylon,[1] thus a kind of "inverted bear pit". The approach ramps for the cyclists were made quite long, so as not to be too steep,[2] and the cyclists were able to get to the top of the ramp.

Construction began in mid-May 2011. The construction was commissioned on December 30, 2011. Barely a week later, the entire intersection was closed due to vibrations in the guy wires that could potentially lead to dangerous situations,[3][4] the repair of which was greatly delayed due to poor weather conditions.
