Jerome of Stridon, full Latin name Eusebius Sophronius Jerome (Stridon, c. 347 - Bethlehem, 30 September 420) was a writer, translator and hermit in early Christianity. He is also often considered a church teacher, church father and saint in Christianity. The Roman Catholic Church counts him among the four great church fathers of the West. Between 390 and 405, he produced a translation of the Bible into colloquial Latin (sermo humilis): the Vulgate. At the Council of Trent (1545-1563), more than 1100 years later, the Catholic Church declared this translation to be the only authoritative text. Alessandro Magnasco (4 February 1667 - 12 March 1749), also known as il Lissandrino, was an Italian late Baroque painter who was mainly active in Milan and Genoa. He is best known for his stylised, fantastic, often phantasmagorical genre or landscape scenes. Magnasco's distinctive style is characterised by fragmented forms rendered with rapid brushstrokes and flashes of light.
